French vessel carries out another “dark transit”

The container ship “CMA CGM Saigon,” owned by France’s “CMA CGM SA,” has successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz.

The “CMA CGM Saigon” is one of the few Western Europe-linked vessels to transit the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the Iran–US conflict in late February. It is reported that the vessel switched off its transponders in order to avoid detection by regional tracking systems during the passage.

According to vessel tracking data, the 1,700 TEU “CMA CGM Saigon” was last seen off the coast of the United Arab Emirates on May 5 before disappearing from radar. The vessel reappeared off the coast of Oman on May 7 and confirmed that it was en route to the Port of Colombo in Sri Lanka.

While most Western European-linked vessels have stayed away from the region since the conflict began, the “CMA CGM Saigon” had already carried out a similar operation successfully in early April.
