As part of their visit to Baku, a delegation from the General Transport Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia visited the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy on April 28. The guests met with Eldar Gojayev, Acting Rector of the Academy, as well as senior specialists of the State Maritime and Port Agency.

During the meeting, held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere, the parties highly valued the Memorandum of Understanding signed last year between the Ministry of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the General Transport Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on the mutual recognition of certificates in accordance with Regulation I/10 of the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.

The head of the delegation, Director of the Seafarers Affairs Department Osama Almehmadi, noted that the visit was of an introductory nature and expressed interest in expanding cooperation with Azerbaijani counterparts and gaining closer insight into maritime education in the country.

Eldar Gojayev, Acting Rector of the Academy, provided detailed information on the 30-year activity history of the Maritime Academy, the 145-year tradition of maritime education in Azerbaijan, the organization of the teaching process, and its scientific potential. He also spoke about potential areas of cooperation between higher maritime education institutions of both countries, including student and faculty exchange programs, development of dual degree programs, and involvement of students in practical training at Saudi maritime companies.

The guests, expressing satisfaction with the sincere discussions, later visited the Academy’s training laboratories, simulators, library, and History Museum, and left their remarks in the Book of Honorary Guests.

On April 29, the Saudi delegation is also scheduled to visit the Training Center of the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy to observe the seafarer certification process.
