The Baku International Sea Trade Port has set a target of handling 8.8 million tons of cargo throughput this year.
Sea-news.az reports that this statement was made by Khudayar Hasanli, Advisor to the Director of “Baku International Sea Trade Port” LLC under Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), during an international conference held in Baku titled “The Role of Ports in Regional Connectivity and Strategic Cooperation” within the framework of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence-Building Measures in Asia (CICA).
According to him, over 8.2 million tons of cargo were handled at the port last year: “Our forecast for this year is 8.8 million tons, and we are working to further expand cargo handling volumes. Regarding container transportation, last year we already handled more than 100,000 TEUs. Now, our projection for this year is 121,000 TEUs of containers.”
The port official noted that following recent geopolitical shifts, all traders and logistics companies are increasingly opting for the Middle Corridor as a reliable route: “You can witness a massive growth rate in freight transportation along this corridor,” he added.
