Kazakhstan plans to increase the total freight handling capacity of its seaports from 21.8 million tons to 30 million tons by 2030.

Sea-news.az reports this, citing information from the press service of the Government of Kazakhstan.

It was stated that over the past five years, the volume of transport along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), or the Middle Corridor, has surged 5.6 times, rising from 800,000 tons to 4.5 million tons.

Work is currently underway to expand the capabilities of the ports of Aktau and Kuryk. This framework includes the construction of new terminals, dredging operations, the reconstruction of berths, and the expansion of the maritime fleet.

According to the Kazakh government, the country plans to acquire 8 more vessels—including dry cargo ships and container vessels—by 2029. As a result of infrastructure modernization, the annual throughput capacity of the TITR is expected to increase from 6 million tons to 10 million tons.

Concurrently, the expansion of railway infrastructure in Kazakhstan continues. Over the past five years, approximately 5,000 kilometers of railways have been built and modernized, resulting in a transit cargo volume reaching 33 million tons. Over the next three years, the construction and renovation of an additional 2,200 kilometers of railways are planned within the country.

Kazakhstan’s projects are of vital importance in terms of increasing the throughput capabilities of the Middle Corridor and expanding transit transport across the Caspian Sea.
