The Syrian government considers the development of new maritime and land transport routes between the country’s ports and the Persian Gulf states that bypass the Strait of Hormuz to be a highly promising project.

According to sea-news.az Syrian Minister of Transport Yaarub Bader stated this in an interview with The National publication during the Syria-British Business Forum held in Damascus.

Emphasizing the importance of regional logistics projects, the Minister said: “We view and welcome every such initiative positively. We look forward to seeing this interest from international partners translate into concrete regional projects in the near future. Due to its geographical location, Syria has historically been one of the key transport hubs connecting East and West.”

According to Yaarub Bader, official Damascus is waiting for partner countries to take practical steps in this direction. At the same time, Syria is independently continuing work on the restoration and development of its internal road and railway infrastructure to accelerate regional integration.

The publication notes that, in order to shape the economic and logistical aspects of the project, the leadership of the Syrian Customs Service recently held an extensive meeting with a delegation from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). During the meeting, issues regarding the expansion of the infrastructure capabilities of Syrian ports, the modernization of border crossings, and the establishment of joint free economic zones were discussed in detail.
