The U.S. military has announced that one service member is missing and three others have been injured after a “MH-60S Seahawk” military helicopter made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea. It was reported that the condition of the injured personnel is stable.
According to sea-news.az this information was released in a statement by the U.S. Navy Fifth Fleet.
According to the report, the Navy is currently continuing the search for the missing crew member. The causes of the incident are under investigation. Preliminary information suggests there are no indications that the incident was the result of hostile activity.
The statement noted that the helicopter was serving as part of the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush, which is deployed in the region.
It was noted that emergency landings of helicopters on water pose a high danger even for experienced pilots, due to the risk of the aircraft capsizing after hitting the water, a result of their high center of gravity.
According to experts, for this type of aircraft, where the center of gravity is located in the upper section (the engine and rotor system zone), the risk of immediate capsizing and flipping upon touching the water is extremely high. This technical characteristic makes emergency water landings a lethal threat even for the most experienced pilots.
