Giant Cable to Pass Under the Caspian Arrives at Kuryk Port!

The submarine cable intended for the construction of the fiber-optic communication line to be laid along the bottom of the Caspian Sea has been delivered to Kazakhstan’s Kuryk port.

According to sea-news.az this was stated in a report by the “Samruk-Kazyna” Joint Stock Company.

It was noted that upon the completion of customs procedures, the cable will be sent to Azerbaijan to kick off the cable-laying operations. The locations for the shore wells along the route of the future line have already been determined in the territories of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. The company recalled that the laying of the submarine cable is scheduled for the summer of 2026.

Currently, horizontal directional drilling operations are underway on the Kazakh coast. A protective cable conduit is being created in the rocky coastal ground to connect the seabed with the shore well. Once the drilling operations are completed, the cable-laying vessel coming from the Azerbaijani side will pull the submarine cable out into the prepared conduit and ensure its connection to the shore station.

It is worth recalling that the telecommunication companies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan — “AzerTelecom” and “Kazakhtelecom” — signed a memorandum on strategic partnership regarding the project to lay a fiber-optic communication line along the bottom of the Caspian Sea back in September 2022 within the framework of an international forum held in Astana.

The project is being implemented as part of the large-scale “Digital Silk Way” initiative, which envisions the creation of a digital telecommunications corridor between Europe and Asia.
