New Approach to Emission Reduction in Shipping

The “2055G+” program introduced by Aderco is being viewed as an integrated approach in the maritime sector, combining fuel efficiency, emission reduction, and carbon market mechanisms into a unified framework.

According to sea-news.az citing Seanews.az, the main objective of the program is not only to reduce fuel consumption for shipowners, managers, and charter operators, but also to convert these savings into measurable and certified carbon credits. The model is built on the principle of linking traditional operational efficiency with financial and environmental value within a single system.

The program integrates the 2055G fuel treatment technology with emission monitoring, reporting, and carbon credit generation systems. Currently, more than 100 vessels are participating in the project, with average fuel savings ranging between 2% and 5%.

Reported pilot results include:

  • A 4.84% fuel saving on a reefer vessel certified by ABS
  • A 3.25% reduction on a capesize bulk carrier verified by RINA

The company states that these results are measured using methodologies approved by international classification societies, and emission reductions are converted into carbon credits in line with Gold Standard principles. Through cooperation with “AdAstra,” each ton of CO₂ reduced is formalized as a tradable environmental asset in the market.

Industry experts note that such programs are transforming maritime decarbonization from a purely technical challenge into an economic model. This shift allows ship operators to treat emission reduction obligations not as additional costs, but as a potential source of revenue.
