The Swedish Prosecution Authority has opened a new investigation against a crew member of the tanker Sea Owl I, which was detained in Sweden’s territorial waters on March 12.

The individual is suspected of using forged documents and has been taken into custody.

According to reports, on the same day, Coast Guard personnel boarded the vessel, which was suspected of sailing under a falsified flag. The 228-meter-long Sea Owl I, built in 2007, has in recent years been used for transporting petroleum products between Russia and Brazil.

The tanker reportedly departed from the port of Santos and was sailing toward Primorsk without cargo at the time of interception. It is also stated that the vessel is included in the European Union’s sanctions list. Although it was operating under the Cameroonian flag, authorities in Cameroon have not confirmed the vessel’s registration or ownership.
