Digitalization step in maritime transport

“Stena Line” and “NAPA” have launched a new digital platform for stability management and cargo planning on RoRo and RoPax vessels.

Currently being tested on the Gothenburg–Kiel route, the technology reduces the time ship officers spend on cargo planning from 1.5 hours to just 10 minutes. Manual and time-consuming data entry processes have been replaced by automatic import directly from booking systems.

The new platform processes information such as cargo type, weight, and dangerous goods classification, performing real-time stability calculations. It also uses artificial intelligence to suggest the most optimal cargo distribution onboard. In addition, digital plans are shared with shore-based teams, enabling immediate identification of the exact location of hazardous cargo in emergency situations.
