On November 4, a round table titled “Protection of Children’s Rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held at the Azerbaijan State Maritime Academy (ASMA).

Sea-news.az reports that during the event, Associate Professor Ilgar Abdullayev, Head of the Department of Humanities, emphasized the paramount importance of protecting children’s rights. Elbrus Hashimov, senior lecturer at the department and legal expert, presented a report on “Protection of Children’s Rights in the Republic of Azerbaijan,” while Farhad Abbasov, Chairman of the Youth Organization of the Navigation Faculty, highlighted key factors driving the implementation of children’s rights in Azerbaijan.

The discussions noted that the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted during the 44th session of the UN General Assembly on November 20, 1989. By acceding to the convention, the Republic of Azerbaijan assumed core international obligations to safeguard children’s welfare and legal protections. The defense and promotion of children’s rights remain a key mandate of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan. As in previous years, the Ombudsman has declared October 20 to November 20 as “Child Rights Month” nationwide ahead of the convention’s adoption anniversary.
