Greek customs officials at the Port of Thessaloniki have foiled a major arms smuggling attempt during a routine inspection.

Sea-news.az reports citing the ERT-news channel, the Anti-Smuggling Agency (AADE) inspected a suspicious container using a mobile X-ray scanning system, discovering and seizing 24 boxes containing more than 3,000 firearms.

Documentation indicated that the shipment, originating from a Chinese port, was declared as “sunglasses and beads” bound for a company operating in Bulgaria. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
