Türkiye has intensified its technical operations to construct an offshore natural gas pipeline to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

Sea-news.az reports that the seismic survey vessel “Oruç Reis” has anchored off the coast of Girne to conduct seabed analysis for the planned 101-kilometer pipeline. The pipeline routing comprises two segments: a 4-kilometer onshore section and a 97-kilometer subsea trunkline along the seabed.

The “Oruç Reis” will execute 3D seabed mapping while simultaneously assessing hydrocarbon potential in this maritime sector.

Beyond supplying natural gas to the TRNC, the project aims to facilitate potential gas exports from the Cyprus offshore region to European markets. According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Türkiye, one leg of the pipeline will be designated for “future supply routing.”

Technical assessments are scheduled for completion within one year, with full pipeline construction targeted for completion by 2028. Notably, Türkiye previously completed a landmark subsea water pipeline to the TRNC in 2015 to secure fresh water supplies for the island.
