The United States intends to expand its military presence in the Arctic and deepen security cooperation with Iceland.

Sea-news.az citing The Wall Street Journal, this plan came to the agenda following the visit of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to Iceland. The publication notes that the agreement reached last month regarding Greenland creates conditions for Washington to increase its military influence in the region. For this purpose, Iceland’s airfields, ports, and surveillance infrastructure are of crucial strategic importance.

To recall, US President Donald Trump had previously stated that the US military presence in Greenland would be increased.
