The death toll from the capsizing of a passenger vessel in Indonesia has risen to 78.

Sea-news.az citing the Xinhua News Agency, reports that 108 of the 243 people aboard have been rescued, while search operations continue for 57 missing individuals. It was reported that the vessel “Virgo Transport 8” departed on September 12 from Surabaya in East Java heading toward Banjarmasin in South Kalimantan. Communication with the vessel was lost on September 13 after it encountered severe weather conditions.

Rescuers have recovered bodies from inside the vessel and along the coast of Central Kalimantan.
