“We have taken a new step to boost youth and teenagers’ interest in rowing. On the first day of the ‘Mingachevir Regatta-2026’ international tournament in Fuzuli, following the races, we invited pre-registered students from Karabakh University and school students to try steering rowing boats and master these skills. Despite the weather conditions, interest in the training was immense.”

Sea-news.az reports Farhad Aliyev, Executive Vice President of the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation, stated this in a declaration to AZERTAC’s regional correspondent.

According to him, given the high level of interest, plans are in place to hold similar training sessions in the future: “Participants included individuals from Fuzuli, Khankendi, and Aghdam. We aim to continue organizing such training sessions in the region going forward.”

Farhad Aliyev also assessed local athletes’ chances of victory at the ongoing international tournament in Mingachevir: “We have athletes who have made it to the finals in canoeing, kayaking, and rowing. There are many experienced foreign athletes participating, but our chances to stand out and win medals among them have increased.”

It is worth recalling that in the “Mingachevir Regatta-2026” international tournament, which kicked off yesterday in Fuzuli, over 100 young rowers from 12 countries are competing—including Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
