CRITICAL Situation — Water Level Decreasing Rapidly

The sharp decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea continues. According to recent measurements, the sea’s water level has reached its lowest point in the last 48 years.

Sea-news.az reports citing “Khazar” TV, that experts attribute climate change and global warming as the primary causes of the declining water level.

According to Seyid Safarov, Head of the Caspian Sea Geography Laboratory at the Institute of Geography, the water level of the Caspian Sea has decreased by 2.5 meters over the past 30 years. In coastal areas, the water level has dropped by more than 1.5 meters.

The decline in the water level of the Caspian Sea could lead to severe ecological, economic, and social consequences. Experts believe that if the process continues at this rate, coastal areas, shipping, the oil and gas industry, and biodiversity could face major impacts.

In this context, investigating the reasons behind the water level changes in the Caspian Sea and taking measures to prevent potential risks are of crucial importance.
