Approximately 80 countries have condemned the actions of Iran and the Houthis in the Middle East, demanding the urgent restoration of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az informs with reference to “Reuters” that this was stated in a joint declaration read by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, in New York within the framework of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.
The statement noted that the actions of Iran and the Houthis pose a serious threat to international trade and energy security.
“Iran’s actions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to pose a threat to international security, as well as to the rights and freedoms of shipowners. We also strongly condemn the Houthis’ decision to reignite the conflict in Yemen, their continuous attacks on Saudi Arabia, and their reckless attacks in the Red Sea,” Al Zayani stated.
Among the countries signing the statement were Persian Gulf states, alongside the United States and other leading Western nations.
The document also emphasized that the advance of the Houthis toward the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait would further heighten risks for international shipping, maritime security, and global trade.
