Vessels on high alert

U.S. Navy warships operating in the Arabian Sea have been placed on an elevated state of readiness amid growing concerns over potential attacks on maritime shipping by Yemen’s Houthi movement in the Red Sea.

Sea-news.az reports citing CBS News, that the crews of the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS George Washington and accompanying guided-missile destroyers have been put on heightened alert.

The decision stems from mounting regional anxieties over Houthi consolidation along Yemen’s coastline and increased operational control toward the Bab el-Mandeb Strait. Recent intelligence reports indicate that Houthi forces have seized control of several key Red Sea coastal locations, including the port of Mocha and Perim Island.

As the Bab el-Mandeb Strait serves as the vital maritime chokepoint connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Indian Ocean, any degradation of security in the corridor poses severe risks to international commercial navigation and global supply chains. Specific tactical deployments of U.S. forces in response to the escalation remain undisclosed.
