The open Azerbaijani sailing championship, jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Water Sports Federation, has officially concluded following three days of intense competition at the Federation’s sailing center near Shikhov beach.

Sea-news.az reports that athletes from Azerbaijan and Turkey showcased exceptional tactical skill across the Optimist and ILCA4 boat classes, navigating technical courses adapted to varying wind directions and speeds. Final standings were calculated based on cumulative scores accrued across all racing heats.

Speaking at the official closing ceremony, Minister of Youth and Sports Farid Gayibov highlighted the comprehensive state support dedicated to the development of sports across Azerbaijan. Welcoming visiting Turkish athletes alongside local competitors, the Minister praised the high organizational standard of the championship and extended his best wishes to all participants for future international tournaments.

Winners were formally awarded diplomas, medals, and special prizes provided by the Federation, while all competitors received commemorative participation certificates. A ceremonial highlight of the event was the unveiling of the traditional honors board, inscribing the names of 2025 Azerbaijani champions Kamal Bashirli (Optimist) and Davud Babazadeh (ILCA4). Additionally, participants of the summer school program for sailing, rowing, and canoeing organized by the Federation were presented with completion certificates.
