IRGC claims capture of advanced U.S. “Dive-LD” autonomous underwater vehicle near the Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy has announced the interception and seizure of an advanced U.S. autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz.

Sea-news.az reports that according to an official statement released by the IRGC Navy, the captured apparatus is a state-of-the-art “Dive-LD” intelligent unmanned underwater system belonging to the U.S. military.

“One of the U.S. military’s most advanced intelligent unmanned underwater vehicles was seized at the entrance to the Strait of Hormuz,” the statement declared.

The IRGC highlighted that the “Dive-LD” autonomous underwater drone was introduced into active service and supply chains for the United States Navy starting in 2025.

The Iranian military statement did not disclose specific tactical details regarding the precise operational circumstances or the method by which the vehicle was intercepted.

Analysts note that this incident further intensifies maritime tensions in the region, focusing heightened strategic attention back onto the Strait of Hormuz—the vital maritime choke point connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman that serves as a cornerstone for global energy logistics.
