The UK intercepts a boat carrying approximately 140 illegal migrants in the English Channel
According to information reported by Sea-news.az citing Sky News, British authorities have intercepted a boat carrying around 140 undocumented migrants in the English Channel.
The vessel had departed from the Jobourg area in the Normandy region of France.
Following the detection of the boat, rescue vessels, a helicopter, and a British Coastguard aircraft were deployed to the area. Two Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) lifeboats intercepted the craft in the Channel, and the migrants were subsequently brought ashore in Portsmouth.
The migrants are expected to be transferred to the Manston processing center, which is utilized for the intake and registration of individuals arriving irregularly in the United Kingdom.
The illicit crossing of the English Channel has evolved into a primary security and political challenge for the UK in recent years. The continued reliance by migrants on small, unseaworthy vessels poses a critical and ongoing threat to human life.
