The Iranian oil tanker M/T Kylo has sunk in the Gulf of Oman following a missile strike carried out by the United States.

Sea-news.az reports this, citing information released by the United States Central Command (CENTCOM), which oversees operations in the Middle East.

In its statement, CENTCOM confirmed that the tanker sank as a direct result of the precision strikes executed by U.S. military forces.

“Thanks to the precision and professionalism of the U.S. military, the tanker Kylo went down in the Gulf of Oman today, joining the ranks of the Iranian Navy at the bottom of the sea,” the statement noted.

Footage circulating from the incident shows at least four missiles striking the tanker’s hull. A massive fire erupted on board following the impacts, after which the vessel listed heavily to its side and slipped beneath the waves.

The incident unfolds against the backdrop of escalating military confrontation between the United States and Iran in the region.
