Against the backdrop of renewed military hostilities between Iran and the United States, Tehran has officially announced the closure of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
Sea-news.az reports citing the Fars news agency, that the announcement was made by Ebrahim Rezaei, spokesperson for the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Parliament.
According to Rezaei, parliamentary deputies approved a series of mandatory requirements under the framework of the “Strategic Action Plan for Ensuring the Security of the Strait of Hormuz.” Under these new conditions, maritime transit through the strait will only be permitted after the payment of specific transit tariffs and military reparations.
Countries that caused any form of damage to Iran during the conflict with the US must reach a formal agreement with Tehran regarding the payment of compensation. Vessels from non-compliant nations will be denied passage. To gain access to the route, commercial vessels are required to secure appropriate insurance and bank guarantees.
The declaration follows intensive US Armed Forces strikes on Iranian facilities in and around the strait. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced that it had launched retaliatory strikes against American military bases across the Middle East.
