Sweden is hosting Europe’s first World Championship in “Team Racing” for sailing yachts.
Sea-news.az reports that the competition is taking place in the Riddarfjärden bay in central Stockholm, bringing together teams from all over the world.
The tournament is organized by the “Gamla Stans Yacht Sällskap” yacht club, which has been preparing for the world championship for over two years. According to project manager Magnus Mührenberg, the main goal of the competition is to increase interest in this sailing sport in Sweden and the Scandinavian countries.
Representing Sweden in the championship, the “Team Kroken” team had a successful start in the tournament. The team noted that home waters and the support of fans create additional motivation for the athletes.
The competitors hope that hosting the world championship will help attract new yacht clubs and expand the geographical reach of this field. Currently, there are few such clubs in Sweden, which limits the number of competitions. Organizers hope that in the future, all Northern European countries will join the project and a Scandinavian championship will be held.
