On the occasion of International Caspian Day on August 12, the “Caspian Senses Observatory” eco-inclusive program was organized at the “Sea Breeze” resort town, aimed at the ecological awareness of children and the involvement of the public in the observation of the marine environment.

Sea-news.az reports that this pilot project, implemented jointly by “Sea Breeze” and the “EcoSphere” Social-Ecological Center, is the first public environmental monitoring initiative combining “citizen science” principles with an inclusive approach.

Children with different developmental characteristics explored the marine environment at interactive stations through their senses of sight, hearing, touch, and smell, took water and natural material samples, and carried out simple environmental measurements.

At the opening of the event, Firuza Sultanzade, head of the “EcoSphere” Center, and guest of honor Mahir Aliyev, Regional Coordinator for Europe of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Head of the Tehran Convention Secretariat, delivered speeches emphasizing the importance of involving the younger generation in environmental monitoring.

Within the framework of the program, an interactive theatrical performance dedicated to the Caspian’s biodiversity and coastal cleanliness was presented, and children actively participated in the proceedings.

According to the organizers, this pilot project lays the foundation for a permanent monitoring system that will combine observations gathered by people with various sensory capabilities into a unified environmental database in the future.
