The “Caspian-Black Sea-Europe Green Energy Corridor” project, which envisages Azerbaijan’s green energy diplomacy and the transmission of electricity to Europe via the bottom of the Black Sea, is an important energy initiative that is changing the geostrategic landscape of the region. This project is of strategic importance in terms of strengthening Europe’s energy security, diversifying routes, and increasing the role of the South Caucasus.

According to the expert, a major priority in the European Union’s energy policy is the expansion of cooperation with reliable partners. Azerbaijan has earned the image of a reliable partner as a natural gas exporter for many years, and now it is taking this partnership to a qualitatively new plane with green energy initiatives.
“The rich wind energy potential of the Caspian Sea, the development of Karabakh and East Zangezur as a ‘green energy zone,’ and the attraction of foreign investments to solar and wind power plants show that the country’s energy strategy is not limited to hydrocarbons. In this context, the underwater electricity cable project along the bottom of the Black Sea signed between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Romania, and Hungary will allow green electricity produced in the Caspian basin to be delivered directly to the European market,” R. Bayramov emphasized.

- The Caspian Sea as a marine-energy bridge: The interest of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in green energy exports increases Azerbaijan’s transit and coordination capabilities across the Caspian basin. Our country is turning into the main platform delivering the green energy potential of the Caspian basin to Europe.
- Geopolitical weight of the South Caucasus: This cooperation, built on maritime and land infrastructure, strengthens economic interdependence among regional countries and deepens strategic partnership with the EU.
- Contribution to the global climate agenda: The project consolidates Azerbaijan’s position as an active participant in the global energy transition.
The political commentator noted in conclusion that this initiative will become the main pillar of a new maritime and land energy connection between Europe and Central Asia, positioning Azerbaijan at the center of Eurasia’s emerging green energy map.
