Major modernization works of the PPM-1 and PPM-2 hydrotechnical towing (ferry) bridges have been successfully completed at Kazakhstan’s Kuryk sea port located on the Caspian coast.
According to information provided by Sea-news.az citing the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the reconstruction measures carried out have expanded the operational capabilities of the bridges, significantly reducing the transshipment and processing time of sea ferries and increasing the overall efficiency of the port infrastructure.
Main indicators achieved as a result of the modernization:
- Railway ferry processing time: reduced from 18 hours to 12 hours
- Road ferry processing time: reduced from 10 hours to 6 hours
- Railway ferry capacity: increased from 40 wagons to 48 wagons
The Kazakh Ministry of Transport stated that the increase in capacity has sharply boosted the cargo transshipment volumes and maritime throughput of Kuryk port. This step ensures reliable maritime cargo processing in the Caspian waters, increases the efficiency of logistics processes, and further strengthens Kazakhstan’s strategic position as a regional transport and logistics hub.
