The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey has issued an official statement regarding the recent drone attacks carried out against civilian commercial vessels belonging to Turkish companies in the Black Sea waters.
Sea-news.az reports that the statement posted on the MFA’s social media account confirmed that the civilian ships named “Yashar” and “Nadezhda,” which left the Russian sea port of Novorossiysk on the evening of August 3, were targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The statement drew attention to the fact that a group of sailors, including Turkish citizens, were injured as a result of the strikes, and their health condition is being closely monitored.
The Turkish diplomatic department expressed deep concern that, despite all warnings, military operations between Russia and Ukraine are expanding to a scale that will also harm civilian shipping in the Black Sea.
The statement emphasized that if timely preventive security measures are not taken, the escalation of tension in the Black Sea waters will lead to severe multi-faceted consequences for maritime trade and logistics, including global food security. For this reason, Ankara renewed its call to all relevant maritime entities, including the parties to the conflict, to take urgent and concrete steps to ensure navigation safety in the Black Sea.
