A massive fire has broken out on a passenger ferry carrying 271 passengers and crew members off the coast of Madura Island, Indonesia.
Sea-news.az reports that according to initial reports as a result of the tragic maritime accident, 5 people have died and 41 people are missing at sea.
Thanks to the prompt intervention of the maritime search and rescue service immediately deployed to the region, 225 people were pulled from the water and rescued.
The maritime transport vehicle was traveling along a route from the port in the city of Surabaya in East Java province to the city of Makassar in South Sulawesi province.
Currently, the causes of the fire on the ship are being investigated by specialists. Marine search and rescue operations are continuing uninterrupted in the waters to find the missing persons.
