Every year on July 30, the international community observes World Day Against Trafficking in Persons.
Sea-news.az reports that this calendar date was established in accordance with a resolution adopted by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in 2013. The goal is to promote the rights of victims of human trafficking and increase public awareness.
According to International Labour Organization statistics, more than 21 million people worldwide are victims of forced labor. The regions where forced labor and human trafficking are most widespread include the Middle East and Africa.
In recent times, transnational criminal groups luring people with promises of legal work abroad and involving them in forced criminal activity in online financial fraud centers has become one of the new and dangerous forms of human trafficking. For this reason, this year’s International Day is dedicated to the theme “Trapped Behind the Scam.”
It should be noted that the UN implements a global initiative called the “Blue Heart” and a Special Trust Fund aimed at combating human trafficking and supporting victims.
