Kazakhstan’s opening of a new export route to Great Britain via the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor) once again demonstrates the growing strategic role of this corridor in international freight transport.
Sea-news.az reports that transport expert Rauf Aghamirzayev expressed these thoughts.
The expert noted that the delivery of mineral fertilizers dispatched from Ekibastuz to Great Britain’s Port of Felixstowe via sea and rail along the Kazakhstan–Caspian Sea–Azerbaijan–Georgia route confirms the reliability of the Middle Corridor. While containers and industrial products were mainly transported along the route previously, the transit of strategic cargoes such as fertilizers, agricultural and food raw materials now highlights this line’s role in global food security.
R. Aghamirzayev emphasized that the Baku International Sea Trade Port, modern railway network, and flexible transit policy have turned Azerbaijan into the main logistics center of the corridor. In the Middle Corridor, which is in the spotlight of the EU, China, the US, and Turkey, it is expected that the projected cargo turnover of 11 million tons for 2030 will reach even higher levels thanks to investments in infrastructure and digitalization.
