US sailor Kai Sato, whose yacht’s mast broke while sailing solo in the Pacific Ocean and who drifted in the open ocean for 30 days, has been safely rescued.

K. Sato, from California, set sail on a yacht from Catalina Island on June 7, but two weeks later, the ship’s mast broke, and his phone and fuel ran out. The sailor managed to survive by collecting rainwater through condensation, and eating oatmeal and marine life that landed on the deck. Returning to his relatives, the sailor stated that he is already planning a new maritime voyage to the Philippines.
