The water level in the Danube River passing through the territory of Romania has dropped to its lowest level in the last 30 years. The current situation has forced the government to impose restrictions on agricultural irrigation.

According to the data, over the past weekend, the volume of water in the Romanian section of the Danube reached the lowest level recorded since 1996.
According to the statement by Romania’s National Administration “Romanian Waters,” on July 19, the water discharge in the Romanian part of the river was 1,700 cubic meters per second. Meanwhile, the average indicator for July is 4,700 cubic meters per second.
In connection with the created situation, farmers’ access to water for the irrigation of cultivated fields has been restricted in the country’s southeastern region.
In addition, control over the water reservoir has been strengthened in order to maintain the minimum water level required for the cooling of the two reactors of the state-owned nuclear energy company Nuclearelectrica.
According to the forecast of the National Administration “Romanian Waters,” the water level in the Danube is expected to gradually rise starting from July 20 as a result of heavy rains falling in a number of regions.
