New Strategic Roadmap on the Trans-Caspian Transport Corridor Among Three Countries

164

As announced by the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, three countries are developing a unified development and tariff model for the Middle Corridor. This approach will serve to make the route operate faster, more coordinated, and more competitively.

According to sea-news.az alongside this, Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are continuing joint projects in the directions of dredging operations in the Caspian Sea, the expansion of the cargo shipping fleet, and the development of port infrastructure. Meanwhile, the investment interest of MSC—one of the world’s largest container shipping companies—in the port infrastructure of the Caspian region further elevates the international significance of the Middle Corridor.

The role of Turkey carries particular importance in this process as well. As the gateway of the Middle Corridor to Europe, Turkey ensures an uninterrupted multimodal connection between Asia and Europe via the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway, the Marmaray tunnel, the Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge, as well as the Filyos, Mersin, and other ports. The development of logistics centers, intermodal terminals, and railway infrastructure in Turkey significantly increases the throughput capacity of the route.

The coordinated activities of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, and Turkey possess the potential to transform the Middle Corridor from merely an alternative route into one of the main logistics corridors of Eurasian trade. In addition to strengthening the economic integration of the region’s countries, this cooperation will increase the speed, reliability, and efficiency of cargo transportation between Europe and Asia.
