The tanker “Deliver,” belonging to the “shadow fleet” allegedly used by Russia to evade sanctions, has been detained near the coast of Sicily.
According to sea-news.az French President Emmanuel Macron announced this on his official “X” (formerly Twitter) account.
The French head of state’s post highlighted the details of the operation and the European Union’s determination on this matter:
“On Tuesday, our Navy seized the tanker ‘Deliver,’ which was passing near Sicily in violation of maritime law. We will not allow the shadow fleet to evade sanctions and finance Russia’s military efforts. Europe is firm in its decision.”

This operation demonstrates that European states are sharpening their control over vessels that evade international sanctions and carry out maritime transport with non-transparent documentation.
