In the English Channel, the crew of the Russian Navy warship Admiral Grigorovich fired warning shots toward an approaching civilian yacht registered in the United Kingdom.
According to sea-news.az the incident was recorded on Tuesday at 11:40 AM local time. Reportedly, the warship and the yacht were in the maritime area between the UK’s Isle of Wight and the French coast. Ownership of the yacht and the reason it approached the Russian warship have not yet been disclosed. Information received by British authorities from the yacht indicated that the Russian warship fired warning shots from a distance of approximately 500 meters.
According to preliminary data, the incident occurred about 20 nautical miles (37 kilometers) from the Isle of Wight, outside UK territorial waters, in international waters. A report published by the BBC states that as a result of the incident, no damage was caused to the yacht or the persons on board, and no injuries were reported. A spokesperson for the UK Ministry of Defence stated that relevant government agencies are currently investigating all information and facts regarding the alleged incident in the English Channel.
