A sailing vessel operating under the Indian flag, “Virat 1” (MSV), has sunk in waters off the coast of Oman, approximately 80 nautical miles east of Ras Al Hadd.

According to sea-news.az the vessel had 14 Indian nationals on board.

During the incident, a U.S. Navy P-8 maritime patrol aircraft was deployed, dropping a life raft from the air to assist in the evacuation of the crew. In parallel, rescue coordination was also carried out with the involvement of the “MV Jabal Ali 9”, a commercial vessel sailing under the Saint Kitts and Nevis flag.

All crew members were successfully evacuated in time and rescued. Preliminary reports suggest that a technical malfunction may have caused the sinking.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
