The new airport being built near the Alat settlement and the Baku International Sea Trade Port is considered one of the key projects in Azerbaijan’s transport and logistics infrastructure.
According to sea-news.az unlike other airports, this facility will be primarily specialized in cargo transportation. The new airport will serve to ensure faster and more efficient delivery of goods transported via the Middle Corridor and the Zangezur Corridor to their final destinations.
The project will create additional capacity for high-value and time-sensitive cargo, while also supporting the expansion of export potential for companies operating in the Alat Free Economic Zone.
Experts believe that the new cargo airport will further strengthen Azerbaijan’s position as a regional logistics hub, attract international cargo flows, and create a more favorable infrastructure for investors.
The project is expected to be commissioned next year. This development will mark an important stage in multimodal transportation, integrating sea, rail, road, and air transport systems.
