Rotterdam Port has announced a major milestone in the field of autonomous shipping. The inland container vessel “Letitia,” operated by HTS Group, successfully completed a voyage between two terminals without active human intervention during a live demonstration.
According to sea-news.az the vessel traveled from the Amaliahaven terminal in the Maasvlakte area to the Vaalhaven terminal. During the journey, it autonomously performed navigation within the port area, detected other vessels, adjusted its route, and executed berthing and unberthing operations.
Although the captain remained on board throughout the voyage, he only had authority to intervene if necessary.
The trial was conducted within the framework of the EU-funded MAGPIE project, which aims to accelerate digitalization, clean energy adoption, and sustainable logistics solutions in port operations.
