One of the Azerbaijani survivors from the cargo vessel “Natra”, which was struck in the Azov Sea, is Elmadin Akhundzade from Boladi village in the Lankaran region.
According to sea-news.az citing Baku TV, Elmadin worked as an electrician on the ship and recalled the terrifying events of that night:
“There were 12 crew members on board. At 12:05 a.m., I woke up to a buzzing sound. People outside were shouting that the ship had been hit by a drone and everyone had to gather below deck. Then the second strike came. After the third strike, we tried to establish communication, but another strike followed. With the fifth strike, the situation became even more tense. Psychologically, we were in a very bad state. We waited for morning so we could search for the bodies. We found one body, and the ship was completely devastated. After searching a bit more, we found the captain as well. Then Russian rescuers arrived and saved us. They placed the bodies in one boat and the survivors in another. The Russians were shocked that we had managed to recover the bodies ourselves,” Elmadin said.
The incident occurred during the drone attack on the “Natra” cargo vessel in the Azov Sea, in which several Azerbaijani crew members lost their lives and others were injured.
