The “Azerbaijan” RoPax ferry, part of ASCO’s fleet, has returned to service following a major overhaul, an important step in ensuring the uninterrupted and safe transportation of cargo and passengers across the Caspian Sea.
According to sea-news.az citing Seanews.az, the vessel underwent extensive maintenance at the Zigh Ship Repair and Construction Yard. The work included upgrades to piping and automation systems, repairs to various pumps, and improvements aimed at enhancing the ship’s overall technical condition. In addition, the vessel’s underwater and above-water hull sections, as well as its railway wagon and vehicle decks, were cleaned and repainted. Necessary refurbishment work was also carried out in the crew cabins to improve onboard living conditions.
Following the completion of repairs, the ferry successfully underwent sea trials and passed all required inspections before being returned to operation.
Commissioned in 2021, the “Azerbaijan” ferry is one of the largest vessels of its type operating in the Caspian Sea. It has a length of 154.5 meters, a beam of 17.7 meters, and a hull height of 7.5 meters. The vessel can carry up to 100 passengers, 56 tank wagons, or 50 trucks/trailers simultaneously.
RoPax ferries of this class play a vital role in handling the growing cargo volumes along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor). Maintaining the fleet at a high technical standard contributes significantly to strengthening Azerbaijan’s regional logistics and transit capabilities.
