A joint Investment Forum on Energy Transition in Central Asia has been held by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and the Ministry of Energy.
In his speech, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov stated that the forum—first organized during COP29—has now evolved into a continuous dialogue platform on energy transition, investment, and regional cooperation.
He noted that the APRECA initiative, launched by IRENA, is an important platform for strengthening connectivity between Central Asia and neighboring regions in renewable energy and critical materials, accelerating the energy transition, and expanding investment opportunities.
The “Central Asia–Azerbaijan Green Energy Corridor” was highlighted as one of the most significant initiatives for regional energy integration. It was also noted that the Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Uzbekistan has laid an important foundation for the creation of a Trans-Caspian Energy Corridor.
It was emphasized that renewable energy cooperation holds a special place in President Ilham Aliyev’s policy of transforming the Central Asia, South Caucasus, and Caspian regions into a unified geopolitical space.
IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera and Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, who will host COP31, also delivered speeches.
During the event, the document “Roadmap for Sustainable Development Goal 7 for Azerbaijan” was presented, outlining the country’s long-term energy transition vision.
The forum featured a broad agenda, including high-level meetings, project presentations, B2B and B2G sessions, and dedicated thematic discussions.
Participants included leading international energy and financial companies such as bp, ExxonMobil, Masdar, TotalEnergies, SLB, and other major partners.
The forum will continue on June 2.
