Sea Turns Brown After Heavy Rains

In Turkeys Giresun province on the Black Sea coast, the color of seawater has changed to a brownish tone following heavy rainfall, covering coastal areas in sediment-rich water.

According to Habertürk, intense precipitation caused large amounts of mud, soil, and sediments to be carried into the sea via rivers. The most noticeable discoloration was observed at the mouths of the Aksu and Batlama rivers, where they flow into the Black Sea.

Experts note that such changes are a natural phenomenon after heavy rainfall, as increased river discharge brings sediments into coastal waters. They also add that the sea typically returns to its normal color within a short period once water flow stabilizes.
