The French Navy has intercepted an oil tanker named “Tagor”, reportedly sailing from Russia and listed under international sanctions, in the Atlantic Ocean.

French President Emmanuel Macron stated that the operation was carried out on Monday morning in full compliance with international law. According to him, the vessel is suspected of being part of a network of ships helping to bypass sanctions imposed on Russia.

Macron added that the operation was conducted by the French Navy with support from the United Kingdom and other partner countries. He emphasized that the move aims to strengthen maritime security and reduce environmental risks.

France has recently intensified operations against so-called “shadow fleet” tankers believed to be used to evade sanctions. Authorities are targeting vessels operating under false flags or refusing inspection, with plans for stricter enforcement measures.

According to reports, the Tagor departed from Murmansk and was escorted to a controlled inspection area off the coast of Brittany after being detained. The vessel is currently under technical and legal investigation, with the case referred to the Brest prosecutor’s office.
