The world’s first oil tanker, “Zoroaster” (Zarathustra), entered service in the Caspian Sea in May 1878.
Built in Sweden and registered at the Port of Baku, the vessel began operations on the Caspian Sea and marked the beginning of a new era in maritime transportation. The Zoroaster is recognized as the first tanker specifically designed to transport petroleum products in dedicated tanks, paving the way for the development of the global tanker industry.
