The Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA) has launched a new project aimed at producing drinking water through the desalination of Caspian Sea water.

Deputy Chairman of the agency Ilham Bayramov stated that the project is being implemented under a public–private partnership model with the participation of international companies.

According to him, the project plans to produce and supply approximately 100 million cubic meters of drinking water annually into the water distribution network.

At the same time, the design of a main water pipeline from the desalination plant to the Jeyranbatan Water Treatment Facilities Complex has also begun. The commissioning of this infrastructure is expected to increase drinking water supply in Baku and surrounding areas by around 25 percent.
