French engineering company GTT has received an order to design the tank system for the world’s first large-capacity three-tank LNG carriers.
The project, commissioned for “BW LNG,” is being implemented by “HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering” (HD KSOE). The construction of four LNG carriers is planned under the project.
The vessels, each with a cargo capacity of 177,000 cubic meters, will be equipped with GTT’s “Mark III Flex” membrane containment system. Delivery of the ships is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2028.
The new three-tank design aims to improve cargo transportation efficiency while reducing operational costs and emissions.
According to the company, the new configuration will reduce the daily boil-off rate of LNG to as low as 0.08%, contributing to improved thermal efficiency.
