The dry cargo vessel “Hayriye Ana” lost maneuverability in the Sea of Marmara due to a malfunction in its engine room. Following a rapid response by the Turkish Coast Guard General Directorate, the vessel was safely rescued, escorted to the Ambarlı anchorage area, and secured at anchor.
The 118-meter bulk carrier was sailing from the port of Ünye in Ordu Province to France when it experienced a mechanical failure off the coast of Beylikdüzü in Istanbul.
After the captain issued a distress call via radio communication, the Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services immediately launched a rescue operation. The tugboat “Kurtarma-8” and a pilot captain were dispatched to the scene.
The disabled vessel was taken under tow and safely delivered to the designated anchorage area.
Authorities stated that in the heavily trafficked waters of the Sea of Marmara, such rapid interventions are critically important for ensuring crew safety and preventing potential maritime accidents.
