“Smart” environmental monitoring introduced in shipping

A new digital platform for monitoring and reporting shipping emissions will be launched to help the maritime sector comply with increasingly strict environmental regulations.

The platform has been developed through a technological partnership between Finland’s Awake.AI and the Netherlands-based Tidalis.

The new system automatically processes data generated during port operations and vessel movements, converting it into reports compliant with international environmental frameworks such as FuelEU Maritime and the European Union Emissions Trading System (ETS).

The technology analyzes real-time data related to vessel berthing, cargo operations, bunkering, and shore power usage, generating emissions reports across Scope 1–3 categories.

One of the platform’s main advantages is its ability to transform large volumes of maritime operational data into measurable and auditable “emissions intelligence.” This allows companies to make faster and more informed decisions regarding decarbonization strategies.

Deployment of the platform is expected to begin at European ports later this year, with future expansion planned for the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle East, and the Americas.
